On July 22, Prof. Huang Sanwen, President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), met with Prof. Florin Stănică, President of the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences of Romania and Romanian Director of the China-Romania Joint Laboratory for Agricultural Cooperation. The two sides exchanged views on further strengthening China-Romania cooperation in agricultural science and technology.

Prof. Huang noted that Romania is an important partner in the Belt and Road Initiative. In recent years, CAAS, the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences of Romania, and other institutions have carried out practical cooperation in joint laboratory development, agricultural science and technology demonstration, and technology extension. He proposed that the two sides make full use of the China-Romania Joint Laboratory for Agricultural Cooperation as an important platform to strengthen joint research in protected agriculture, green and sustainable agriculture, crop breeding, and efficient cultivation of edible mushrooms, and promote the application of agricultural science and technology achievements in Romania and other countries in Central and Eastern Europe.

Prof. Stănică spoke highly of CAAS’s achievements in agricultural science and technology innovation and international cooperation. He expressed his willingness to further deepen exchanges and cooperation with CAAS and expand joint research and technology demonstration in germplasm exchange, genomics, and post-harvest processing through the joint laboratory, with a view to achieving more tangible outcomes.

Representatives from the Department of International Cooperation and the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture of CAAS attended the meeting.
