The leading scientists from CAAS, Chinese and international research centers and universities initiated an international mega science project: From Genome to Phenome - Deciphering Crop Genetic Resources (G2P) with aim to decipher genetic resources contributing to a new green revolution and global food and nutrition security.
Vision:Deciphering plant genetic resources for a new Green Revolution.
Mission:To establish a worldwide collaborative research network for deciphering crop genetic resources to produce information, knowledge and products of crop genomic and phenomics studies as global public goods, enhance the innovation capacity in plant breeding in the public and private sectors well as nurture a new generation of plant scientists, especially in the developing countries
Objectives:
To enhance the innovation capacity of agricultural science and technology through focused exploration and utilization of global crop gene resources
To provide scientific solutions to global food security by establishing collective development and sharing mechanisms for research capacities, data bases, genetic resources, and discoveries for partners from both public and private sectors
To develop and adopt universal methods and standards for phenotyping and gene discovery in selected priority crops for staple foods, pulses, and oils, etc.
Overall Objective: To enhance the innovation capacity of agricultural science and technology through focused exploration and utilization of global crop genetic resources.

Expected Outputs
Output 1: Core germplasm resources sequenced, diversity and genetic basis delineated and evolution maps drafted.
Output 2: Mechanisms of gene-environment interaction for target traits and crops defined through high-throughput phenotyping.
Output 3: Novel and/or elite gene resources identified, modified and made available for plant breeding across the G2P mega project
Output 4: New mechanisms for international cooperation and information sharing in genetic resources.
Output 5: A new generation of crop scientists, especially young and woman scientists from developing countries, trained, and networked
Up to date, in total of 33 research institutions (10 Chinese institutions and 23 international institutions) have agreed to jointly launch the G2P.
