Workshop on FMD prevention and control held in Lanzhou
The Workshop on Prevention and Control of Foot and Mouth Disease held from November 12 to 13 in Lanzhou. Representatives from East Asian countries, including Japan, Korea, Mongolia and China, discussed joint actions against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).

This workshop was to implement ministers' commitments made at the China-Japan-Korea Trilateral Agricultural Ministers' Meeting held in 2012. It was sponsored by Veterinary Bureau of Ministry of Agriculture, and co-organised by Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute (LVRI) of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS).
Its main topics were: (1) the epidemic situation and prevention and control of FMD in the last two years in East Asian countries; (2) research progress for prevention and control of FMD in China; and (3) FMD vaccine quality control and supervision in China.
A consensus was reached on joint FMD control, as:
• to draw on experience from the South-East Asian and China Foot and Mouth Disease Campaign (SEACFMD), including exchange Its main topics were: (1) the epidemic situation and prevention and control of FMD in the last two years in East Asian countries; (2) research progress for prevention and control of FMD in China; and (3) FMD vaccine quality control and supervision in China.
A consensus was reached on joint FMD control, as:
and cooperation in terms of technology and administration;
• to establish and improve dialogue mechanism among veterinary authorities of four countries to communicate major animal health
and public health issues of common concerns on a regular basis;
• to enhance collaborative research on diagnosis technology of animal diseases and comprehensive control measures, encourage
cooperation between institutes and veterinary pharmaceuticals from four countries;
• to further intensify TAD prevention and control, joint surveillance in bordering areas, animal movement control and timely response
to emerging and re-emerging animal diseases.
