The delegation headed by Dr. TANG Hua-jun, Vice President of CAAS visited University of Maryland, University of New Hampshire, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and University of Alberta from March 1st to 10th.

Vice President TANG signed Memorandum of Understanding on Scientific and Technical Cooperation with Wallace Loh, President of University of Maryland. CAAS have always cooperated very well with College of Behavioral and Social Sciences of this university.

When visiting University of New Hampshire, the delegation was well received by Lorraine Merrill, New Hampshire’s minister of agriculture. They identified agricultural remote sensing and crop science as cooperation priority, and signed a memorandum of understanding on setting up a Joint Laboratory for Sustainable Agro-Ecosystems Research in CAAS.

As Africa is the major investment destination of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the delegation mainly discussed with Jeff Raikes, CEO of the foundation, and relevant project manager about how the two sides could cooperate in Africa. The cooperation could cover mini agriculture equipment, animal vaccine and renewable energy. University of Alberta is famous in Canada or even in the world for its Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences, especially for disciplines like veterinary medicine, crop sciences and agricultural resource and environment. The delegation met with Carl Amrhein, vice president of the university, and John Kennelly, dean of the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences, and other experts in the relevant fields. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in the mentioned fields and will sign the cooperation agreement at a proper time.
