On September 12^th, Prof. Wu Kongming, President of CAAS, met with H.E. Mr. Augusto Valderrama, Minister of Agricultural Development of the Republic of Panama, and exchanged views on further advancing agricultural science and technology cooperation between China and Panama.

Prof. Wu Kongming stated that extensive potential for cooperation exists in the field of agricultural science and technology between China and Panama. This visit of high-level delegation from Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) to the CAAS reflects the high importance Panamanian government attaches to agricultural science and technology, and underscores the significant role of agricultural sci-tech in bilateral cooperation. CAAS is willing to work with MIDA and Panamanian agricultural research institutions to enhance cooperation in areas of common interests, including climate change, smallholders’ livelihood, agricultural product quality standards and detection technology, as well as hybrid rice.

H. E. Mr. Valderrama highly praised the active role CAAS played in promoting high-quality agricultural development and rural revitalization in China. He fully agreed with the cooperation initiatives put forward by Prof. Wu Kongming and emphasized that Panama values agricultural trade with China, looking forward to promoting agricultural trade through cooperation in agricultural technology.

Mr. Leonardo Alfonso Kam Binns, the Ambassador of the Republic of Panama to China, accompanied the delegation. Responsible officials from the Department of International Cooperation of CAAS attended the meeting.
