The 3rd International Conference on Agro-Geoinformatics held in Beijing
The 3rd International Conference on Agro-Geoinformatics (Agro-Geoinformatics 2014) was held in Beijing on August 11-14, 2014. The event was co-organized by the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS-IARRP), the Center for Spatial Information Science and Systems of George Mason University (GMU-CSISS), National Agricultural Statistical Service of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA-NASS), and the Chinese Association of Agricultural Science Societies (CAASS). And over 200 scientists and scholars from 15 countries (Belgium, Canada, Australia, Colombia, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, Philippines, Netherland, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, and China participated in the conference.

The 4-day conference mainly focused on the following 12 topics, as: “Crop acreage estimation, growth condition remote sensing monitoring and yield modeling”, “Remote-sensing based agricultural disaster monitoring, assessment, and mitigation”, “Cropland evapotranspiration, soil moisture, and drought monitoring and assessment”, “Agricultural ecosystem monitoring, assessment, conservation, and service sustainability”, “Crop, forest, and grass land inventory and land-cover/land-use change”, “Agricultural decision support systems”, “Acquisition, processing, and information extraction of remotely sensed data”, “Agricultural product tracking/Agro-biomass estimation, energy crop inventory and distribution”, “Water resource planning and management, irrigation and water usage”, “Weather information representation, analysis and application for agriculture”, “Integration of RS, GIS and GPS (3S)/ Interoperability and standards, and cloud computing in agricultural information systems”, as well as the special session on “Climate change and crop production systems in China”. The Conference has received more than 300 abstracts, of which more than 150 papers were presented on the conference. All submitted papers were retained in the conference proceedings and will be published in the IEEE Xplore database. The extended version of the selected papers will be published in a special issue of a SCI indexed journal: The Journal of Applied Remote Sensing.
