Experience sharing: Transforming Agriculture in Africa
CAAS and the World Bank (WB) successfully co-organized a China field tour on agricultural productivity and technology for African leaders/managers, researchers and farmers June 4-14, 2014. Approximately 50 participants from 15 African countries took part in this activity.
The training activity consists of experts’ lectures and field tours. Experts from National Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center (NATESC), China Agriculture University (CAU) and several CAAS institutes made specific lectures on agricultural policy in China, the crop science, agricultural machinery, biotechnology, application and extension, and agricultural information, etc.. With comprehensively understanding the status quo of China’s agriculture, participants paid field trips to Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang provinces.
Li Guo, the coordinator of this training program and task manager, spoke of a vision in which African agricultural development would be linked with CAAS and other Chinese agricultural institutions in various areas to boost the communication and collaboration.” This training is well organized by CAAS and reached a great success. It will be a good starting point for the future agricultural S&T experience sharing and knowledge exchange.”, said Li.
At the wrap-up report meeting, participants expressed the strong wish to collaborate with CAAS. Short-term and medium to long term plans were also made specifically to step up the collaboration on capacity building, germplasm exchange, technology application and extension, agro-mechanization via technical agreement, joint research and development projects.
