On March 26, the fourth working group project meeting of China-UK Sustainable Agriculture Innovation Network (CUSAIN) was held in Suzhou, East China’s Jiangsu Province.
The project, with the title of ‘Knowledge, Policy, and Practice for Sustainable Nutrient Management and Water Resources Protection in UK and Chinese Agro-ecosystem’, aims at contributing to the prevention and control of non-point source pollution and water protection. It carries out research in areas of nutrient loss in typical farming, nutrient flow, nutrient transform and integration, and farming management measures.
Agro-Environmental Protection Institute (AEPI) of CAAS, and School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London initiated the project since 2009, so as to build links on issues of common interest. So far, both sides have reached mutual benefits and a win-win result which marks the cooperation to a new high.

At the meeting, the working group members exhibited their early research achievement, which has optimized the distribution of resources such as the model parameter and analytical method. Foreign experts performed technical guidance and training in various forms to local officials, extension workers of agricultural technology and farmers. Also, they shared fresh ideas, and gave suggestions to the local sustainable development in agriculture.
After the meeting, some of the members organized trainings and provided technical guidance to local farmers during their field trips to Xiangcheng and Yixing of Jiangsu Province, and grew their involvement in this endeavor.
