Ethiopian Biological Technology Delegation Visited CAAS
On January 28th, the Ethiopian biological technology delegation headed by Dr. Kassu Yilala Ashame, Minister for Policy Study and Research con Adviser to the Prime Minister of Ethiopia paid a visit to CAAS. Dr. Wu Kongming, Vice President of CAAS, met with the delegation.
Wu Kongming welcomed Ashame’s visit and extended President Li’s greetings to the Ethiopian delegation. He noted, as agricultural country, China is characterized by the coexistence of diversified agricultural production modes, some of which adopted by Chinese smallholders are similar to those of their Ethiopian counterparts. In this regard, China is willing to share with Ethiopian colleagues the technical resources and experience it had accumulated. He stated some of CAAS’ research programs on biotechnology and genomic study had notched up innovative breakthroughs, which had ensured the national agriculture development and food security of China. Wu stressed, under the framework of bilateral cooperation agreement of the governments of China and Ethiopia, CAAS would be committed to strengthening ties with Ethiopian agricultural research institutions to facilitate exchange visits of scientists and undertake cooperative researches.
Dr. Kassu Ashami spoke highly China’s achievements in agricultural science and technology and expressed the interest in cooperation on the research and application of biotechnology with CAAS through such approaches as joint laboratory and capacity building. He suggested duly signing of the Cooperative Memorandum of Understanding to boost bilateral cooperation.
After the meeting, the delegation visited the Key Laboratories in the Institute of Crop Science and the Institute of Biotechnology and exchanged views with biotechnological and genomic scientists. Leading officials from CAAS’ Department of International Cooperation, Institute of Vegetables and Flowers, Institute of Crop Sciences, Institute of Biotechnology attended the meeting.
