Li Jiayang meets Under Secretary of USDA
On May 12th, CAAS President Li Jiayang met with Michael Scuse, the visiting Under Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) at CAAS in Beijing. Both sides agreed to further strengthen the bilateral agricultural scientific collaboration and facilitate establishment of the USA-based joint lab in the near future.
“The bilateral agricultural science and technology cooperation has made notable progress in recent years, especially in the fields of environment protection, plant pest control, climate change, agricultural information exchange, and so on”, said Li at the meeting. He also expressed his satisfaction to the joint efforts in promoting the establishment of a mirror office of the Sino-American biological control laboratory in USA. Li hopes the two sides to deepen the cooperation under the framework of the China-US Plan of Strategic Cooperation in Agriculture (2012-2017).
Scuse spoke highly of China's significant progress in agricultural scientific research and development. He suggested the two sides further promote cooperation in areas of common interests, such as the food safety and biotechnology, etc.
Both sides agreed to choose an appropriate time in the near future to sign a MOU on the establishment of USA-based joint lab between CAAS and USDA and a new agreement on agricultural cooperation between China Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) and USDA.
