China, Mongolia and Australia initiate new project on grassland management
The international collaborative project “Strengthening incentives for improved grassland management in China and Mongolia” was kicked off on September 11, 2015. Experts and representatives from Queensland University, Australian National University and Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Institute of Grassland Research of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science (IGR, CAAS), Inner Mongolia Agricultural University (IMAU) attended the launching ceremony.

Supported by Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), the project will roll on for four years to address the conflicts between the maintenance of grassland ecosystem service and high-profit livestock production on Mongolian Plateau grassland. It will provide decide-making support on the new polices of payment for grassland ecosystem services (PES).
In the past two decades, two rounds of ACIAR projects have been carried out in China, focusing on the development of techniques or methods to help the local grazers increase their net incomes. Many techniques and several demonstrative farms have been developed, which laid a solid base for the new round of project.
