CAAS and MU Establish Joint Centre for the Prevention and Management of Exotic Invasive Species
On June 9, 2015, CAAS and the University of Murdoch signed an Agreement on the Joint Centre for the Prevention and Management of Exotic Invasive Species after a fruitful meeting between CAAS Vice President Wu Kongming and MU Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Development Prof. David Morrison in Beijing.

Wu emphasized the importance of ‘green production’ for China’s agriculture. It’s of vital significance to reduce the cost of agricultural input through less water, fertilizer and pesticide utilization. Biosafety measures and related crop protection technologies and risk analysis and prevention of invasive species, which is the core work of the Joint Center, will give more impetus for sustainable agriculture. He also suggested closer cooperation between CAAS and MU in research on barley, animal health and environmental technologies, based on the advantages and interest of both sides.
Prof. Morrison shared with CAAS the strategic orientation of MU’s research priorities including prevention and control of plant pest and diseases, animal health and environmental sciences and bio-environment rehabilitation. He added that the Joint Center is part of Murdoch’s international program for biosafety research and expects high from the collaboration.
Mr. Justin Hayhurst, Deputy Head of Mission of Australian Embassy in Beijing also attended the meeting.
