The delegation headed by Dr. LIU Xu, Vice President of CAAS, went to Chile and Brazil for a 10-day visit from May 29th to June 7th, 2011.

While in Chile, the delegation visited Chilean National Academy of Agricultural Sciences and was well received by Chilean Ministry of Agriculture. Officials of the ministry introduced the situation of Chilean agricultural production and foreign trade, and they also expressed the willingness to enhance agricultural technological cooperation with China. Vice President LIU invited members of Chilean National Academy of Agricultural Sciences to visit CAAS, and agreed to cooperate with Chilean National Academy of Agricultural Sciences in areas like germplasm resources exchange, fruit tree planting, husbandry and agriculture products processing. The two academies signed Memorandum of Understanding on Scientific and Technical Cooperation and decided the implementation measures of the bilateral cooperation.

When in Brazil, the delegation paid a visit to Brazilian Agricultural Research Institute. The two sides discussed the cooperation mechanism of China-Brazil Joint Laboratory of Agricultural Sciences, the first joint Laboratory between China and a Latin American country, which was founded in Beijing in April 13th, 2011.
