CAAS to stress partnership with Gates Foundation
On April 10th, President Li Jiayang met with Mark Suzman, President of the Global Policy & Advocacy of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), during the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference (2014) held in Hainan Province, to discuss on how to strengthen collaboration on agricultural science and technologies.
President Li started by highlighting the partnership between CAAS and BMGF for the past years. He said, the cooperation on the project, Green Super Rice for the Resources-Poor of Africa and Asia had created positive impact worldwide. To increase more contribution to the agricultural development and ensure food security in the world, President Li proposed to broaden the scope cooperation between CAAS and BMGF especially in the field of food safety, dry-land sustainable agriculture, agricultural information, small agricultural machinery, biomass energy, etc.
Suzman expressed his appreciation on the development of the Green Super Rice (GSR) project since it started in 2009. He agreed with Li’s proposal to strengthen the partnership to the next step by further broadening the cooperation in the near future.
