On April 16, Vice President Wu Kongming met with Daud Mohamad, Deputy Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) along with his colleague Liang Qu, Director of FAO/IAEA Joint Division at CAAS headquarter in Beijing. Two sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in the field of nuclear agricultural science.

Wu briefed the guests with the latest development of CAAS and its strategic plans. Wu said, agriculture is an important arena for nuclear science research and application. Through years’ development, CAAS enjoys strong strength in this field. Many CAAS institutes have undertaken IAEA supported research projects and expert service programs, contributing the progress of nuclear agricultural science in China and other IAEA member states. Wu propose to future consolidation of the partnership between CAAS and IAEA.

Mohamad agreed with Wu’s proposal. He said, IAEA would continue to advance the partnership with CAAS and welcome young scientists from CAAS to be trained in IAEA headquarter and its laboratories for career development.

Two sides held in-depth talks on the possibility of establishing the “China-IAEA Joint Center of Excellence on Agricultural Nuclear Science”. Consensuses were reached on deepening and broadening the cooperation through joint organizing training workshop to train talents from China and other countries based on the new platform.
