Sino-German Symposium on Food Safety held in Beijing

Sino-German Symposium─Challenges and Perspectives in Food Safety, was held from September 17 to 22 in Beijing. The symposium was co-organized by Institute of Quality Standard and Testing Technology for Agro-Products (IQSTAP) of CAAS and TU Kaiserslautern, Germany. Nearly 180 representatives and experts attended the event.


 
CAAS Vice President Liu Xu pointed out, in his speech on the symposium, that it was common responsibility for the international community to ensure food safety; and it was obligate and imperative for Chinese and German institutes to consolidate cooperation, put heads together and make joint efforts so as to effectively confront various food safety challenges.
 

 
Chen Zongmao, Professor from Tea Research Institute (TRI) of CAAS, also the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) delivered a keynote report on Progress of Pesticide Residue Research and Testing Technology; Gerhard Eisenbrand, Professor from University of Kaiserslautern delivered a keynote report on Principles and Prospects of Risk Assessment. More than 40 academic reports were delivered by scientists from home and abroad around the following three themes: current supporting technologies for food quality and safety, risk assessment and control of agricultural chemicals, and solutions for particular food safety problems.
