On August 20, 2014, Hon. Kiraitu Murungi, Chairperson of Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperatives Committee of the National Assembly of the Parliament of Kenya, along with his colleagues, paid an official visit to China National Rice Research Institute (CNRRI) in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province.

At the meeting, CNRRI Leading Party Group Secretary Fang Jun spoke highly about the long existing friendship between China and Kenya. And after a brief introduction about the CNRRI’s research and development, Fang suggested the two sides further promote scientific cooperation in the rice research. “As developing countries, both Kenya and China face the similar challenge in safeguarding their food security, therefore, to explore and strengthen the South-South cooperation in agriculture research and development under frameworks of governmental agreement should benefit a lots to the people of both sides”, as Fang said. “And as a national leading research institution, CNRRI is glad to share its expertise and techniques with Kenya.”

Kiraitu Murungi agreed with Fang’s proposal and expressed his wish to promote the S&T cooperation with CNRRI’s support. Mr. Krop Timothy Altingit, Culture Counsellor of the Kenyan Embassy attended the meeting.

Senator Kiraitu Murungi and his delegation also visited some CNRRI experimental stations during their stay in Hangzhou.
