The 20th CAAS-RDA Planning Committee Meeting Held in Changchun
On June 1, 2015, the 20th CAAS - RDA Planning Committee Meeting was held in the Institute of Special Animal and Plant Sciences (ISAPS) of CAAS in Changchun, Jilin Province. CAAS and RDA delegations respectively headed by Prof. Wu Kongming, Vice President of CAAS and Mr. Seung-yong Ra, Deputy Administrator of Rural Development Administration (RDA) attended the meeting and exchanged views on strengthening bilateral cooperation.


Wu spoke highly of the long-lasting and fruitful partnership between CAAS and RDA since the Memorandum of Understanding on Agricultural Science and Technology Cooperation was signed in April 1994. He noted that, over the past 20 years, more than 70 projects have been carried out under the CAAS-RDA cooperative framework, covering wide areas including crop breeding, soil and fertilizer, plant protection, horticulture, biological pest control, livestock, special animals and plants, biotechnology, agro-environment, scientific information, apiculture and sericulture. Based on these projects, close tie for collaboration had been forged and laid solid foundation for future cooperation.
Seung-yonge Ra also appreciated the CAAS -RDA cooperation. He said successful convening of CAAS - RDA Planning Committee Meeting annually for 20 sessions per se symbolized the ongoing growth of China-Korea friendship and mutual trust. He said RDA would continue to cooperate with CAAS to address common challenges in climate change, food safety and sustainable agricultural development. He hoped that the partnerships will continue to be consolidated and strengthened through joint efforts of both sides.
In the meeting, Prof. Feng Dongxin, Director General of Department of International Cooperation of CAAS delivered a report entitled Review and Prospect of 20-year CAAS –RDA Agricultural Science and Technology Cooperation. Prof. Yang Fuhe, Director General of ISAPS and Lee Kyu-seong, Director General of National Institute of Crop Sciences of RDA introduced their main research fields and priorities respectively. Delegates from both sides shared the progress of the ongoing projects on ginseng, protected agriculture and honeybee products. The modality for future cooperation was also discussed and explored. The meeting was concluded with the signing of a new round of Agreement on the 2015 Cooperative Projects between RDA and CAAS.
After the meeting, the RDA delegates visited the laboratories and experimental bases of ISAPS.
