Dr. Huqu Zhai Paid Visits to US
March 7-12 2010, Dr. Huqu Zhai, President of CAAS and Dr. Xifeng Gong, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation paid a visit to the CGIAR headquarter and IFPRI in Washington and Monsanto in St. Louis, Missouri.
Dr. Zhai was received by Dr. Ren Wang, the first Chinese national CGIAR director in Washington. He stated that CAAS would give its strong support to the CGIAR reform and try his best to increase funding to CGIAR. Evaluation and utilization of germplasm resources, personnel exchange, key programs on transnational zoonotic diseases, food safety and food security shall be the major areas for cooperation.

Dr. Zhai participated in the evaluation process of Monsanto’s Beachell-Borlaug International Scholars Program and listened to a company brief. He said that the huge input in biotechnology and leading managerial expertise and facilities of the company are the magnet for cooperation.
