Sino-EU workshop on trans-boundary animal disease and zoonosis
An workshop on bridging research activities on trans-boundary animal disease and zoonosis between China and EU was held in Shanghai from April 14th – 16th, 2014. The workshop was organized by the Shanghai Veterinary Research Institute (SHVRI) of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS).
The workshop brought together 97 scientists, experts and students from 35 institutions from Asian, European and American, of which 37% of participants were female. 32 cases on trans-boundary animal diseases and zoonosis such as avian influenza, classical swine fever, African swine fever, PRRS and Newcastle disease, rabies, Japanese encephalitis, brucellosis and tuberculosis, porcine endemic diarrhea, duck tembusu virus infection and mutated pseudorabies were presented and discussed.
Special presentation of two officials from FAO/IAEA joint lab and China Animal Diseases Control Center on the control policy and strategies as well as advanced diagnostic technology, fascinates the whole group.
Generally, the workshop provided opportunity for extensively exchanged of the knowledge and experiences on the control of trans-boundary animal diseases and zoonosis across three continents. More important was clear identification of several interesting areas for further collaboration. Thanks for the workshop that did not only brought together old friends in the existing network but also built strong new network, which will further strengthen the international collaborations for control of trans-boundary animal diseases and zoonosis.
