China-New Zealand joint laboratory on fruit sciences held annual WGC
China-New Zealand Joint Laboratory on Fruit Science held annual working group conference (WGC) in Zhengzhou August 29-31, 2013. Theme of the conference was to strengthen joint research on fruit breeding technique and deepen mutual exchanges, short term development planning for the laboratory was discussed thoroughly.
Specific collaboration programs between the two sides were discussed in areas of red skin pear breeding, apple rootstock breeding, research for kiwifruit disease-resistance mechanism and orchard integrated pest control, preliminary consensus was reached during the conference and relative collaboration agreements would be signed in near future.

China-New Zealand Joint Laboratory on Fruit Science (Zhengzhou) was launched in March, 2013, by Zhengzhou Fruit Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (ZFRI-CAAS) and New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research Limited (PFR).
According to protocol, both sides will work together with specific priorities on fruit functional gene discovery, molecular breeding, growth & development of fruit and its control, fruit storage and processing, fruit quality and safety and etc, with the goal of achieving characteristic and disease-resistant varieties of fruit trees breeding as well as application of modern breeding techniques into fruit breeding techniques.
