CAAS Participating in EU and FAO Conferences
At the invitation of Dr. Maive Rute, Director of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Biotechnologies, European Commission and Dr. Noel D. de Luna, Chairman of the Committee on World Food Security, FAO, vice President Tang Huajun participated in the Knowledge-based Bio-economy towards 2020 in Brussels and the first joint meeting with the Steering Committee of the High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE), Committee on World Food Security (CFS) during September 9-18, 2010 respectively.
Dr. Tang addressed at the Brussels Conference about the Food Safety Situation in China, which inspired many converging points with EU countries. He was also actively involved in the discussion on the social challenges and economic drivers of the European Bio-Economy. Meanwhile, the Information Day and Brokerage Event for EU FP7 Program was held on the same occasion. Dr. Tang shared the research interest and cooperation potentials collected from CAAS researchers before his leaving and received favorable feedback. He had friendly discussion with Ms. Maive and her team on strengthening the bilateral cooperation under the theme of FAFB.
Dr. Tang also participated in the CFS meeting under the capacity of member of the steering committee of HLPE. The committee was composed of 15 agricultural experts from all over the world. The purpose of this committee is to promote science-proved and knowledge-based decision making in the global effort of eliminating hunger and ensuring food security for all.
