On May 23rd, Mr. Ioane Naivalurua , Ambassador of the Republic of Fiji to China visited the Institute of Apicultural Research (IAR), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). Both sides exchanged views on further deepening apicultural science and technology cooperation.

Peng Wenjun, Deputy Director General of IAR briefly introduced the IAR/CAAS and the apicultural development in China. He stressed that the institute values the cooperation with Fiji. He hoped that both sides could establish long-term cooperative relationship in various areas such as personnel exchange, technical training, bee equipment and.

Mr. Ioane Naivalurua gave a brief introduction to the agriculture and apicultural development in Fiji and pointed out that Fiji beekeeping started with small colonies and the management falls relatively behind. However, the abundant local floral resources and highly enthusiastic beekeepers could provide foundation for beekeeping development. He stressed that Fiji is paying great attention to beekeeping and looking forward to in-depth communication with IAR/CAAS, and would further deepen scientific cooperation with the institute.

The delegation visited the National Bee Museum, Bee Product Quality Supervision and Testing Center affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture, P. R. China, Apicultural Science Association of China (ASAC), and the experimental apiary.
