Li Jiayang meets Executive Director of Global Crop Diversity Trust
On February 18th, President Li Jiayang met with Marie Haga, Executive Director of Global Crop Diversity Trust at CAAS headquarter in Beijing. The two sides discussed the future cooperation in the field of crop germplasm conservation and utilization.
Li briefed the guest about China’s latest development in agricultural S&T research. As for the collaboration in the conservation and utilization of crop germplasm, he suggested the two sides carry out project-oriented cooperation, making full use of respective comparative advantages in agricultural expertise and fund-raising. Li also proposed to strengthen the partnership by initiating joint research projects and co-organizing seminars based on a MOU between the two sides.
Haga agreed with Li’s suggestion. She introduced the latest development of Global Crop Diversity Trust and hoped to strengthen collaboration with CAAS in the fields of crop germplasm collection, agricultural information system, and gene sequencing, etc.
Located in Bonn of Germany, the Global Crop Diversity Trust was jointly founded by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Biodiversity International (representing CGAIR). It is the sole worldwide funding organization dedicated to preserving endangered crop diversity and providing material basis for new crop varieties breeding.
