CAAS and MSU: Collaboration Growing Steadily
On October 15th, CAAS President LI Jiayang met with David DeWitt, Senior Associate Dean, College of Natural Science, Michigan State University (MSU). The two sides agreed to push forward the collaboration in biotechnology under regular cooperative mechanism. The partnership dated back 2 years to LI’s 2012 visit to MSU.
“It is such a pleasure to have MSU delegation in CAAS. CAAS-MSU Workshop on Agricultural Biotechnology steps us into further steady cooperation. ”, President LI said, “I’ve learnt from my colleague that the workshop is very informative and productive. We should enhance our cooperation not only through short-term academic activities, but also establish a long-term regular cooperative mechanism. Jointly apply for international projects, talent training, scientists exchange, especially establishment of joint laboratory are offering us more options. In addition, our collaborative research areas can be also broaden, such as animal science, veterinary, agro-product processing, water utilization and agroecology, etc. it is so important to transform raw agricultural research to an agricultural research chain .”
David DeWitt agreed with LI and expressed appreciation for CAAS achievement in agricultural biotechnology. The MSU delegation indicated that they are very impressed by the high-tech advanced facilities and equipment which provide scientists and students a perfect research platform. Both sides should broaden and deepen mutual-interested research areas and share updated information.
CAAS-MSU Workshop on Agricultural Biotechnology was successfully held on October 14th, 2014 in CAAS. 70 Scientists and PhD students from MSU and CAAS attended the activity. Presentations of metabolism, molecular mechanisms and genomic sequences made in the workshop arouse heated discussion and fruitful conclusion. In order to get a better understanding of CAAS ongoing research in biotechnology, MSU delegation paid visits to the Institute of Crop Science, Institute of Plant Protection, Institute of Vegetables and Flowers as well as Biotechnology Research Institute.
