CAAS Successfully Organized the Session I of Thematic Forum of International Conference on Food Loss and Waste
On September 9th to 11th, the International Conference on Food Loss and Waste (ICFLW) was held in Jinan, Shandong Province. ICFLW was proposed by XI Jinping, President of P.R. China on the occasion of the 15th G20 Summit last year. At the convening of ICFLW, President XI sent a congratulatory letter, which was read out by JI Bingxuan personally, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of P.R. China. Twenty-four ministers and six deputy ministers of agriculture from G20 and relevant countries, six heads of international and regional organizations delivered speeches at the conference, while 16 ambassadors to China participated to the conference. Entrusted by the Organizing Committee of the conference, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) organized the Session I of Thematic Forum of the Conference - Reducing Food Loss in Production, which was a complete success.
This session was moderated by Prof. Zhang Yahui, DG of Department of International Cooperation, CAAS. Nine experts and officials from both China and abroad analyzed the situation of food loss and waste in the world, and share their perspectives, experiences and practices for reducing food loss and waste particularly in the process of food production, aiming to promote global food security and achieve 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
The nine experts and officials are: Mr. Jeppe Juul Petersen, Counsellor for Food and Agriculture, Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark, Beijing; Prof. Li Peiwu, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor of Oil Crops Research Institute, CAAS; Mr. Matteo Marchisio, IFAD Country Director and Representative in China; Prof. Wang Fengzhong, DG, Institute of Food Science and Technology, CAAS; Prof. Yuriy Lupenko, Vice President, National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine; Dr. Cao Guangqiao, DDG, Nanjing Institute of Agricultural Mechanization, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, P.R. China; Dr. Ulrich Kuhlmann, Executive Director, Global Operations, CABI; Dr. Claudio Dunan, Director of Strategy, Bioceres Crop Solutions, Argentina; Prof. Tim Benton, Director, Environment and Society Programme, Chatham House.
