China and Japan to continue sustainable agriculture research program
On April 14, the Research and Development Program for China’s Sustainable Agriculture formally (Phase Ⅲ) launched in Beijing. Representatives and experts from MOA, MOST, CAAS and JICA participated in the ceremony.


The three-year program (2015-2018), “is designed to reduce non-point source pollution in agricultural production in favor of ecological progress through the development, research, demonstration, and promotion of eco-friendly agricultural technologies in collaboration with institutions from Japan.”, as Zhang Yanqing, Director-general of IEDA (Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture, also the Executive Director of the China-Japan Research and Development Center for Agricultural Technology) introduced on the ceremony the same day.
“It will involve the creation of international cooperation teams, innovation capacity building, introduction of internationally advanced concepts, and result extension and outreach. This will promote agriculture towards sustainable development through scientific and technological progress”, Zhang added.
The program has been, by far, the largest project of scientific and technological cooperation between China and Japan in the field of agriculture. Previous to the Phase III, the two sides have had successfully implemented two phases of cooperation in above mentioned field.
