Chen briefed the delegation the research achievements and international cooperation status of CAAS. He stated that China is a big agricultural country where the agricultural development and food security were deemed as one of the key state affairs. The central government attaches great importance to issues relating to agriculture, farmer and rural development and values the leading role of science and technology in the agricultural development. China and Thailand have been enjoying long lasting friendly relationship. With the existing solid foundation on bilateral cooperation in agricultural science and technology, a prospect of future fruitful cooperation is predictable. Chen stressed, as China’s national agricultural research organization, CAAS is willing to enhance exchanges and share its experience with its Thailand counterpart under the support of the two governments so as to upgrade China-Thailand agricultural cooperation to a higher level.

Surachai Liengboonlertchai echoed Chen’s views. He noted that Thailand also highlights the importance to issues of agricultural production, farmers’ income and agricultural science and technology development. He admired CAAS’ achievements in the basic research, basic application and application research, and expressed hope to advance China-Thailand agricultural science and technology cooperation through this visit.
 

 

The meeting was followed by a workshop presided by Feng Dongxin, Deputy Director General, Department of International Cooperation of CAAS, during which researchers from Institute of Agro-Products Processing Sciences and Technology and Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning discussed extensively with the Thailand delegation focusing on areas of agricultural products processing, remote sensing application technology and agricultural regional planning.
