Sesame Cultivar Zhongzhi 13 Extension Area up to 1.2 Million Mu
Zhongzhi 13, a new sesame variety bred by a research team headed by Professor ZHANG Xiu-rong from the Oil Crops Research Institute of CAAS. With high yield and adaptability, it possesses the characteristics of strong resistance to waterlogging and diseases.
Zhongzhi 13 is the widest adopted sesame cultivar in China. As reported, since its released in 2005, the total extension area of Zhongzhi 13 reaches up to 1.2 million mu (0.8 million ha) and covered a quarter of the total major sesame planting area along Jiang-huai and Yangtze River valleys and benefit more than 600 million RMB. Besides the major sesame planting areas along Jiang-huai and Yangtze River valleys, Zhongzhi 13 is also extended to Xinjiang, Guangxi, Zhejiang and Hainan Provinces.
