IPPCAAS Scientists Developed Rapid Visual Detection Methods for Fungicides Selection in the Field

Recently, the invention patent of “a rapid detection kit for QoI resistance in Colletotrichum trunactum” developed by the Innovation Team for Intelligent Plant Protection has been authorized. This method overcame several shortcomings of traditional methods of resistance detection of plant pathogens, such as long detection periods, complicated operation, and low efficiency. A rapid field detection method for Colletotrichum resistance to QoI fungicides was established. It can be used for rapid detection, early warning, and fungicides selection of resistant isolates in the field, providing a method for constructing intelligent fungicides selection and intelligent efficacy evaluation.

In recent years, the Intelligent Plant Protection Innovation Team has developed a variety of rapid fungicides selection kits based on phenotype and genotype, focusing on the rapid detection of pathogen resistance and selection of fungicides. The team developed an oligo base mismatch strategy based on the mechanism of fungicides resistance. The bottleneck of false positive was thus overcome. The resistance of Colletotrichum spp. to QoIs and Monilinia spp. to DMIs could be detected rapidly. The detection accuracy of resistant strains was more than 98%, with high specificity, sensitivity, and good repeatability. Moreover, the technology of recombinase polymerase amplification combined with a lateral flow dipstick (RPA-LFD) was used for the detection of MBC resistance in Botrytis cinerea. Compared with LAMP, this method is more simple, portable, and rapid, and has application potential.

Those methods are simple to operate, accurate, and easy to read, and can guide users to make scientific and intelligent fungicides selection in the field, realizing precise fungicides selection and accurate fungicides use. The above research achievements have been authorized by the national invention patent, and at the same time, two research papers have been published in Pest Management Science.
