Zhonghuang 35, Soybean Yield Hit New High
Zhonghuang 35, the trial soybean variety received a bumper harvest in mid October in Xinjiang this year. According to the experts from the National Center for Soybean Improvement and Shenyang Agricultural University, this soybean variety created another record in per unit yield, hitting 405.89kg per mu. (1.066 mu or 0.071 hectare was harvested for evaluation.)
Zhonghuang 35 was released by the research team led by Professor Wang Lianzheng, the famous soybean breeder, also the former vice president of CAAS. It is a preferential variety for North China, Northeast China and Northwest China, covering 10 provinces. Since its first trial cultivation in Xinjiang in 2007, yield per mu exceeded 350kg every year. In 2009, the highest unit yield hit 402.5kg.
The plant growth and yield formation were well controlled by using balanced fertilization. Drip irrigation and organic fertilization were applied and approaches on integrated pest and weed management were adopted. Mechanization was realized both for sowing and harvesting.
