The six varieties selected were bred by China National Rice Research Institute (CNRRI) of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). Five varieties among these were also super rice varieties defined by MOA.
Zhongjiazao 17 and Zhongzao 39, are two early-season inbred rice varieties registered in 2009 and 2012 respectively by National Rice Variety Approval Committee (NRVAC) and defined as super rice variety in 2010 and 2013. They have been extended to fit in the Middle and Lower Reaches of the Yangtze River Region (MLRYRR) in the following provinces; Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Anhui. Nei5you8015, a high-quality single-season hybrid rice, was registered in 2010 by NRVAC and defined as super rice variety in 2013. The average yield reached to 11.8 ton/ha in Kaihua county, Zhejiang province in 2103 through yield demonstration trail. This variety has been extended in MLRYRR, Jiangsu, Fujian, and Henan provinces.
Zhongzheyou 1, a high-quality three-line hybrid rice variety, was registered by Rice Variety Approval Committee of seven southern provinces during 2004-2010 and defined as super rice variety in 2006. The main grain quality characters reached to top level of the national rice quality standard. It has been extended in Yangtze River Region grew as single-season rice variety.
