Major Breakthrough in New Lean-type Peking Duck
In a press conference held on October 27th, researchers from Institute of Animal Sciences (IAS) of CAAS announced that they have made a breakthrough in Peking duck breeding. Researchers have successfully bred a new lean-type duck with characteristics of high feed efficiency, lean meat yield, low fat deposition, excellent mat quality and strong disease resistance, namely the Z-type Peking duck.
Professor HOU Shui-sheng (houss@263.com), chief scientist of the Z-type Peking duck research program at IAS, introduced to the media that the 6-week Z-type Peking duck is superior to other duck breeds based on a large-scale contrast of the body weight, feed efficiency, the yield of breast and leg meat, etc.
The Z-type Peking duck marks a significant progress in high quality duck enrichment in China. According to reports, IAS has signed scientific and technical transfer agreements with two national leading duck breeding enterprises after the press briefing.
