New antiviral protein biopesticide developed
A new antiviral protein biopesticide, the 6% oligosaccharide •PeaT1 protein inducer WP, was successfully developed by Qiu Dewen and his research team in Institute of Plant Protection of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IPP-CAAS) and issued appraisal from MOA recently. According to the information, this is the first approved antiviral protein biopesticide in China.
As introduced by Qiu, the new biopesticide has a great market potential in China. And its control effect is 65% on rice stripe disease caused by rice stripe virus (RSV), while 68% on tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) disease and control effect of 75% on tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) disease. It is safe for the environment and the plant itself with low toxicity and no pollution, in accordance with sustainable development of agriculture.
The results were published online on Plant, Cell and Environment and PLoS One.
