Recently,The“cabbage harvester”developed by Nanjing Institute of Agricultural Mechanization, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has been selected for the "2024 China 's agricultural and rural major new technologies, new products and new equipment " and released at the 2024 annual meeting of the Chinese Agricultural Association and the China Modern Agricultural Development Forum.

Cabbage is also called head cabbage, lotus white, Brassica and so on.It can be planted all over the world in four seasons. It is an important agricultural product for the stable production and supply of ' vegetable basket ' in large and medium-sized cities. However, due to complex cultivation terrains, small land plots, and heavy soil in some areas.existing equipment faces issues such as incompatibility with production agronomy, poor adaptability, low harvest quality, and high prices, hindering large-scale promotion and application. The existing cabbage harvesting equipment has problems such as unmatched production agronomy, poor adaptability, poor harvest quality, and high price, and it is difficult to achieve large-scale promotion and application.

The“Cabbage harvester” is the key operation equipment of full mechanization of cabbage production. Through systematic research on key scientific issues such as standardized cultivation techniques, efficient continuous harvesting, and adaptive low-damage harvesting, breakthroughs have been made in key technologies such as low-damage uprooting, adaptivedeflection feeding, flexible clamping and conveying, dual-moving-blade precise root cutting, and efficient leaf stripping. The “Cabbage harvester” suitable for both flat and ridge plating has been developed, achieving combined harvesting operations from uprooting, conveying, root cutting, leaf stripping, to collection. The machine loss rate is less than 1.0 %, and the damage rate is less than 4.2 %,and the actual operating efficiency is 1-2 acres per hour, more than 10 times higher than manual harvesting. It addresses the differential harvesting of multiple varieties of cabbage and enhances adaptability to different soils and cultivation modes, providing strong support for the transformation and upgrading of the vegetable industry and the stable and adequate supply of the "vegetable basket."
