Six New Cucumber Varieties Passed Appraisal
On September 10th, Beijing Seed Administration (BSA) passed appraisal for six new cucumber varieties (Zhongnong 18, Zhongnong 26, Zhongnong 28, Zhongnong 31, Zhongnong 50 and Zhongnong 116) bred by researchers from the Institute of Vegetables and Flowers (IVF) of CAAS.
These newly varieties not only possesses the good qualities of Zhongnong cucumber with high yield and good commercial value, but also have combined tolerance for more than four diseases, including the currently prevailing powdery mildew, downy mildew, fusarium wilt and virus diseases.
Zhongnong 18, Zhongnong 28 and Zhongnong 116 are suitable in both green houses and field planting, while Zhongnong 26, Zhongnong 31 and Zhongnong 50 are more suitable for green house plantation. As reported, currently Zhongnong 26 is the major cultivar for green houses planting in Beijing and Liaoning Province's Jinzhou and Wafangdian areas.
