At the invitation of the Hydro-informatics Institute (HII) of Thailand, Associate Researcher Chang Ming and two other members from the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development (IAED) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences paid a visit to Thailand from December 16th to 19. This visit aimed at promoting the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund (LMCSF) project "Water Resources Management for Community Resilience and Sustainable Development", and deepen scientific research project cooperation by building cooperation platforms, strengthening joint research, and exploring knowledge-sharing mechanisms, injecting new impetus into the cooperation between China and Thailand in the fields of water conservancy and agriculture.
Accompanied by Dr. Royboon, Director of the Hydroinformatics Institute (HII) of Thailand and others, the delegation went to the Royal Development Research Center in Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, the Mengchun Reservoir and its upstream forest, and the Mae Na Ruea Street Water Resources Management Center for on-site visits and investigations. They also had in-depth discussions on the issue of water resources governance in the Lancang-Mekong Basin, especially on the issue of building an exchange and cooperation mechanism between southwest China and northern Thailand, aiming to improve the effectiveness of basin governance and enhance all-round cooperation. The two sides also exchanged and shared the "New Agriculture Theory" of Thailand and Xi Jinping's Thought on Ecological Civilization of China, deepening their understanding of each other's agricultural development concepts. In addition, the two sides had extensive exchanges on important issues such as the development of small-scale smart agriculture, shared successful cases and challenges faced, and explored the directions and possibilities for future cooperation, injecting new vitality into cooperation in related fields.
This China-Thailand exchange and cooperation has deepened the communication and cooperation between China and Thailand in the fields of agriculture, water conservancy, and so on. The LMCSF will continue to adhere to the concepts of ecological priority and green development, helping people in the basin to share the benefits of development.
