New Water and Fertilizer Management Method for Cotton Yield in Non-Mulched Fields of Southern Xinjiang
Recently, the Principles and Technologies for Deficit Irrigation Team from the Institute of Farmland Irrigation, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences proposed an alternative method for efficient water and fertilizer management in arid regions. The work, entitled “Compensation of cotton yield by nitrogen fertilizer in non-mulched fields with deficit drip irrigation”, was published online in Agricultural Water Management.
This study confirmed that it is possible to compensate for the yield loss caused by deficit irrigation in cotton fields with non-mulched drip irrigation by increasing nitrogen application. The findings provide a theoretical basis for the efficient use of water and nitrogen in cotton fields with non-mulched drip irrigation and the large-scale application of this technology in southern Xinjiang.
This study was supported by the National Key R&D Program of China and the Major Science and Technology Project of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
