Currently, CAAS has 106 experimental bases including 5 comprehensive bases at the academy level and 101 specialized bases at the institute level, involving 28 research institutes. These bases spread over a total area of 88,200 acres in 28 provinces/ autonomous regions/municipalities, covering all the major national agricultural production regions and typical agro-ecological areas. The experimental bases serve as the second laboratory for original innovation in agricultural science and technology, an important working site for the transformation of agricultural scientific and technological achievements, and a core node for long-term observation of factors in agriculture and rural areas. Each base undertakes over 2,000 experimental research tasks on average per year, generating more than 1,000 high-quality academic papers, and identifying over 170 new varieties of animals and plants. More than 630 granted patents have been obtained and new varieties, technologies, and products have been promoted over 50 million mu (approximately 3.3 million hectares).
